Job Title: Lower School Early Childhood Teacher (Pre-Kindergarten) - Maternity Leave Position

Division: Lower School 

Reports to: Head of Lower School 

Duration: Temporary, February 2026 – early May 2026

Summary:

King School seeks a temporary Lower School Pre-Kindergarten educator to cover a maternity leave from February 2026 through early May 2026. The teacher will join the Early Childhood team and collaborate with talented educators to deliver a comprehensive, creative, and developmentally appropriate program for four and five-year-olds.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a vibrant, Reggio-inspired early childhood program grounded in the school’s mission and commitment to inquiry-based learning, student agency, and joyful discovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain an early childhood classroom environment using Reggio-inspired materials and resources.
  • Implement and adapt purposeful routines and emergent curriculum appropriate for 4 and 5-year-olds.
  • Collaborate with the Early Childhood team, the Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Head of Lower School to plan and deliver a cohesive and engaging learning experience.
  • Use The Project Approach (Chard/Katz) to develop an integrated curriculum that fosters cognitive and social/emotional growth.
  • Observe and assess students regularly, using these insights to plan instruction and document student learning through creative and meaningful displays and communication tools.
  • Communicate with families through the MyKing portal and Seesaw platform, sharing updates on curriculum, classroom activities, and student progress.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and contribute to written progress reports, as applicable during the assignment period.
  • Collaborate respectfully and effectively with colleagues and school leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School.  

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Reggio-inspired curriculum and The Project Approach (Katz) preferred.
  • Proven ability to design engaging classroom environments and develop curriculum based on student interests.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with colleagues and families.
  • A warm, flexible, and joyful approach to working with young children.

  • Demonstrated cultural competency and the ability to work effectively with diverse students and families.  

Classifications:

This is a temporary full-time position to cover a maternity leave from February 2026 through early May 2026. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and aligned with King School’s faculty salary structure.
