Job Title: Long-Term Substitute Teacher, Computer Science and Technology

Job Description:

King School seeks a long-term substitute teacher to provide continuity of instruction during a faculty leave. The teacher will teach Upper School Ethical Hacking and AP Computer Science Principles, as well as five sections of Grade 8 Tech and Innovation. The successful candidate will maintain the established course goals, support students with diverse experience, and create engaging, inclusive learning environments.

The Upper School courses use a hybrid format. Students meet with the teacher on a reduced in-person schedule and complete additional course material online. The substitute teacher must report to campus as required for faculty; this is not a work-from-home position. The Middle School Tech and Innovation classes are taught in person and do not use the hybrid format.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teach Upper School Ethical Hacking and AP Computer Science Principles.
• Teach five sections of Grade 8 Tech and Innovation, a full-year Middle School minor, during the leave period.
• Plan and deliver in-person and online lessons, assignments, projects, and assessments as appropriate to each course.
• Coordinate with CSEI colleagues to maintain continuity of instruction and student progress.
• Provide timely feedback, maintain accurate grades and course records, and communicate with students and families as appropriate.
• Support students with varied learning needs through clear instruction, differentiation, and collaboration with student support teams.
• Teach cybersecurity concepts and ethical hacking through responsible, authorized learning activities.
• Participate in relevant department, division, and faculty meetings and fulfill other duties assigned to the position.

Skills and requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required; degree or substantial coursework in computer science, education, or a related field preferred.
• Ability to teach AP Computer Science Principles and technology and innovation concepts to students in Grades 8–12.
• Experience teaching middle or upper school students preferred.
• Familiarity with project-based learning, computational thinking, programming, cybersecurity, or related fields.
• Ability to organize and support learning across in-person and online course activities.
• Strong classroom management, organization, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to use learning platforms such as Google Classroom and Gmail to support instruction and communication.
• Commitment to differentiated, student-centered, and culturally responsive teaching.
• Understanding of adolescent development and a demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students.
• Demonstrated alignment with King School’s mission and virtues.
