Job Description:
The Science Department seeks a dynamic, full-time middle school science teacher to begin in the 2026–2027 school year. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities consistent with expectations for all Middle School teachers, including a primary teaching load of four sections, an advisory, and at least one co-curricular activity.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teach NGSS- of aligned, 3 sections of Grade 6 Science and 1 section of Grade 8- Foundation of Science (Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences) with a focus on inquiry, research, problem solving, and critical analysis skills and developing reading and writing within the curriculum.
- Design and facilitate diverse instructional strategies that inquiry-based, hands-on, and project-based learning experiences that promote scientific thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application.
- Develop students’ skills in scientific inquiry, experimental design, research, critical reading, writing, and data analysis.
- Integrate technology, media, and innovative teaching practices to enhance student engagement and mastery of content.
- Assess student progress regularly and use data to inform instruction and provide timely feedback.
- Serve as a student advisor, supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development through advocacy, guidance, communication with families, and leadership of advisory activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues, student support teams, and school leadership to ensure student success and alignment of curriculum, instruction, and skill development across grade levels.
- Partner with K–12 science faculty and the Chair of the Science Department to develop and align curriculum across grade levels and disciplines.
- Communicate student progress through conferences, reports, and ongoing parent/guardian correspondence.
- Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, committee work, and school initiatives.
- Fulfill supervisory and community responsibilities, including student duties, field trips, Parents’ Night, Open House, and other school events as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Science Education, STEAM Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1–5 years of classroom teaching experience preferred, with experience teaching science at the middle school level.
- Demonstrated expertise in science instruction, including inquiry-based learning, hands-on laboratory experiences, research, scientific writing, and project-based learning.
- Experience designing and implementing a curriculum that develops both scientific content knowledge and critical thinking skills.
- Deep understanding of early adolescent development and the ability to support middle school students’ academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, and growing independence.
- Proven ability to create and manage engaging, student-centered learning environments, including hands-on centers, labs, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and implement best practices to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Experience integrating educational technology and innovation tools to enhance learning.
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to collaborative teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to teach, learn, and collaborate effectively in a diverse and multicultural community, fostering an inclusive environment that values and supports individuals of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and perspectives.
