Job Title: Middle School French Teacher Leave Replacement
Division: Middle School
Reports to: Head of Middle School and World Language Department Chair
Job Description: King seeks a Middle School leave replacement to teach French to grades 6 and 7 starting March 23, 2026, through June 10, 2026. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities, consistent with expectations for all Middle School teachers, which consist of the primary teaching load of four sections and leading an advisory.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teach 3 sections of French Level 1, French Level II, and French Level III to grades 6, 7, and 8, respectively; cover two study halls
- Serve as a Grade 8 Advisor.
- Responsibilities include advocating for the students, communicating with parents about advisees’ progress, guiding advisees through daily school life, sharing information, and leading discussions.
- Teacher Collaboration
- Attends regular meetings for Grade 8 with student support teams to discuss student concerns and progress.
- Collaborates with other Middle School language teachers and the Department Chair to ensure consistency in the established academic program.
- Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning, Middle School Dean of Students, and School Counselors when appropriate to ensure students are fully supported and challenged.
- Participate in all required meetings.
- Perform other supervisory duties as required of all Middle School teachers - recess and snack, lunch, study hall, morning greeting, etc.
- Communicate with parents/guardians about students and advise progress as necessary.
Skills & Requirements:
- Bachelor's required, advanced degree in French preferred.
- Experience teaching French to middle-school-aged students.
- A strong affinity for children, flexibility, and a sense of humor are required.
- Knowledge of academic and social developmental benchmarks.
- Strong communication skills and ability to constructively collaborate with students and colleagues.
- Must embrace the use of technology to enhance communication and instruction support.
- Proven ability to facilitate differentiated, student-centered best practices.
- Possess a sound understanding of the intellectual and social-emotional developmental stages of adolescents.
- Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery, autonomy of thought, and skill development.
- Ability to be organized and manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural competence--ability to effectively teach, learn, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student body--in pedagogical practice and multicultural curriculum content.
- Demonstrated capacity in culturally responsive professional practices, excellent communication skills, and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
- Demonstrated capacity to thrive in our diverse community, including but not limited to diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic status, ability/disability, belief, sexual orientation, and national origin, according to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.
